Also known as an occlusal release tray, this equipment comes in the form of a hard, transparent resin accessory that usually encloses your upper-arch teeth. Custom-made from a precision optical dental impression taken in the office, the tray stops friction between the two jaws and effectively relaxes the temporomandibular joint. It relieves bruxism-related tension and protects teeth.
Once the initial assessment has been carried out, your practitioner takes an impression of your teeth using a special camera. A partner laboratory then manufactures your mouthpiece. Finally, you return to the office to try it on. Adjustments are necessary to optimize contact between the teeth of the mouthpiece. You’ll also receive recommendations for use and cleaning. Bruxism aligners are usually worn at night, when involuntary grinding most often occurs. The lifespan of an anti-bruxism mouthpiece varies from three to five years, or even longer. At the end of this period, your practitioner may renew the treatment if deemed necessary.
