What is a bridge?

The bridge we offer is a fixed dental prosthesis. It consists of 3 ceramic crowns, the purpose of which is to replace a tooth by supporting it on the adjacent teeth, also known as “abutments”. The abutment teeth must be prepared as if they were to receive crowns. In the interests of tissue preservation, we strive to keep them alive without devitalizing them.

Ceramic provides an aesthetic result, as the prosthesis blends perfectly with the natural teeth.

When should you use it?

A fixed dental bridge may be indicated for several reasons following a tooth extraction:

If you do not wish to opt for an implant-supported crown and the adjacent teeth are in sufficiently poor condition to be crowned

For a natural smile

To restore normal mastication and speech

To prevent migration and loosening of adjacent teeth

It’s a comfortable, solid, fixed solution with excellent guarantees

This avoids the need for removable braces with clasps, and provides an aesthetic, durable and extremely comfortable solution. Dental bridges are extremely durable. It’s a biocompatible, tissue-friendly permanent prosthesis that’s as strong as a natural tooth.

It should be noted, however, that the use of a conventional bridge requires adjacent teeth capable of supporting an additional tooth. If this is not the case, an implant-supported solution (implant-supported crown) is preferable.

What is the procedure like at Studio Dentaire?

A bridge is generally set up in 3 sessions at our office in Lyon 3rd, in the heart of the Part-Dieu district.

If your abutment teeth need to be devitalised, we’ll do this under local anaesthetic in a separate session.

When it comes to installing the bridge itself, the dental surgeon prepares the abutment teeth during the first session by gently trimming them into crowns. This slightly reduces their size to leave enough space for the dental bridge.

This procedure is performed under local anaesthetic if the teeth are alive, and is completely painless.

We then take an impression of the abutment teeth, which we pass on to our ceramic prosthetic partners. This enables them to create the framework.

At the second appointment, we let you try on the framework to check the fit. If the fit is good, we send the framework back to the dental technician, indicating the exact shade of your teeth. In this way, we guarantee a 100% natural result.

Final installation takes place during a 3rd appointment, once we have received the final version of the bridge. It takes less than an hour and is equally painless. It is made in the same way as a crown, using dental cement.
