Gingivitis – Treatment of gum inflammation

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. This is the first stage of periodontitis.

Causes of gingivitis :

Gingivitis is caused by the presence of certain bacteria in dental plaque (the deposit you try to remove when you brush your teeth). These bacteria are harmful to your gums and cause this inflammation.

Symptoms of gingivitis :

Gums bleed when brushed, sometimes when chewed and even spontaneously. Gums swell, turn red and sometimes become painful to brush. Gingivitis is often accompanied by bad breath.

Why is gingivitis harmful?

It’s not normal to have bleeding gums when brushing. If there’s bleeding, there’s a wound. The absence of bleeding indicates healthy gums. The persistent inflammation of your gums will reach the deeper tissues of your periodontium and cause your teeth to lose their attachment (loosening of the teeth or periodontitis).

Treatment of gingivitis:

With proper brushing, you can effectively eliminate plaque bacteria. The symptoms of gingivitis will quickly disappear, and your gums will become pink, firm and perfectly adherent to your teeth. Gingivitis is completely reversible.
