What are dentures?

The purpose of a dental prosthesis is to restore or replace a tooth. They can be fixed or removable, in the case of dentures.

Dental veneers: redesigning a smile

A dental veneer is a thin film of ceramic that is bonded to the outside of the tooth using a bonding system.

It not only masks tooth discoloration, but also corrects tooth shape, size and even alignment.

Onlay: restoring a decayed tooth

An onlay is a porcelain inlay used to restore a decayed or fractured tooth. It replaces fillings and composite resins.

This prosthesis fits into the cleaned and prepared tooth cavity just as two puzzle pieces fit together. It restores the natural shape and color of the tooth. The bonding system ensures a perfect seal between the tooth and the onlay, limiting the risk of infiltration and recurrence of caries. This solution is indicated for teeth with little or moderate decay.

Two appointments are required. At the first appointment, we’ll prepare the tooth and take an impression. Once the prosthesis has been made, we’ll proceed with bonding.

exerts no pressure on the tooth wall (unlike fillings), thus preventing fractures

Tooth crowns are recommended when teeth are badly decayed or unsightly.

Bridge: replacing a tooth

A dental bridge replaces a tooth that has been extracted, supported by adjacent teeth.

This prosthesis takes the form of a set of three crowns. The abutment teeth, adjacent to the missing tooth, will need to be cut in the same way as crowns and (often) devitalised.

The main benefit is to restore not only an aesthetic smile, but also normal chewing. Replacing a missing tooth also prevents healthy teeth from shifting and loosening.
