The primary purpose of a dental splint is to relax the jaw muscles, allowing the teeth to return to their normal (non-clenched) position. The mouthpiece is a transparent rigid resin accessory, custom-made from impressions taken by your dentist. Most often, the anti-bruxism dental splint is inserted over the upper part of the teeth, comfortably enclosing them. Its action is twofold: it stops friction between the two jaws and relaxes the muscles of the mouth. Designing your custom-made occlusal splint involves several steps:
- an initial dental check-up to establish the causes of bruxism;
- optical fingerprinting using a special camera;
- manufacture of the prosthesis by a laboratory ;
- gutter installation and adjustment.
The treatment is accompanied by personalized advice on how to wear and maintain the mouthpiece.
