Our team consists of three implantologists and two dental assistants. During your first consultation, we’ll talk to you to find out what you’re looking for, and carry out a full assessment to evaluate your needs and the solution best suited to your situation. To place a dental implant, you need to have sufficient bone in the tooth concerned, and no periodontal disease. In some cases, however, it may be possible to use a dental bone graft to add height or thickness. Once the feasibility of the operation has been confirmed, we will provide you with an estimate. An implant is a titanium screw inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. This procedure is carried out by an implantologist dentist in a specialized practice. The main advantages of this method? Unlike bridgework, this method replaces a tooth without touching the adjacent teeth: once the implant is in place, a ceramic crown can be placed on top, for a natural-looking result. This also avoids the need for a more restrictive removable appliance. It will take a few months for the crown to be fitted, while the bone heals around the implant. This is called osseointegration.
osseous cells will deposit on the implant surface, as titanium is a perfectly biocompatible material. Once healing is complete, we’ll schedule the fitting of a fixed prosthesis.
The procedure will take place under local anaesthetic in the operating theatre of our dental practice. It will be performed by your implant dentist. The gingiva is gently peeled away to prepare the implant bed. We then install the implant and apply a few stitches to promote healing. We’ll remove them once we’ve checked that osseointegration is underway. It will then take 4 to 6 months for the prosthesis to be fitted, by which time the healing process has been completed and the implant has fully integrated into the bone. Implant placement is completely painless. Your Lyon dental implant dentist will prescribe medication prior to the procedure to prevent swelling, as is sometimes the case with hospital surgery.
