Periodontitis: a variety of causes

Periodontal disease often begins with bleeding, but unlike gingivitis, periodontal disease leads to bone loss, which causes teeth to loosen: the level of the gums drops, and the roots of the teeth eventually appear. The treatment will include :

Removal of tartar above the gum line using specially designed instruments.

Removal of tartar below the gum line. Anesthesia is rarely required. The detached gums gradually re-attach to the roots, forming a watertight sleeve around the teeth. The bone surrounding the roots consolidates, preventing the teeth from shifting.
