What is an anti-bruxism splint?
The dental splint for bruxism comes in the form of a removable, transparent resin “mouth guard”. Made to measure, this device is designed to relax the jaws and prevent friction between the upper and lower teeth. The occlusal release trays we make at Studio Dentaire are the result of an in-depth study. We examine..:
- the meshing ratios of all your teeth,
- the positioning ratios of your upper and lower jaws,
- the position of your upper jaw in relation to your skull.
In addition, we look for any temporomandibular joint dysfunctions (facial muscle pain, tension, cracking, clicking, etc.) and assess wear on the grinding surfaces of your teeth. To do this, we take precision impressions with an optical camera, use a facebow, record your centric relationship (new reference position) with wax, and transpose your printed casts onto an articulator (a device that simulates your jaw movements). Finally, the mouthpiece can be made by our prosthetic craftsman in Villeurbanne.
Once the mouthpiece has been adjusted in the mouth, our patients wear it at night, live well with it and can’t do without it. Worn regularly, the occlusal tray helps prevent the side effects of bruxism: tooth wear or breakage, jaw and neck pain, headaches, sleep disorders…
