Beyond their aesthetic importance, teeth enable us to chew properly, but also play an essential role in our speech and the balance between the upper and lower jaws. For all these reasons, replacing an extracted tooth is anything but trivial.

Not only must we ensure that the result is 100% natural-looking and that the prosthesis does not stand out from the rest of the teeth, but we must also guarantee the patient real comfort over the long term.

To achieve this, Studio Dentaire begins by offering you a comprehensive oral assessment at your first appointment, before defining the solutions and care program that will suit you best.

The placement of a dental implant requires a certain bone density in the jawbone, as well as perfectly healthy gums. In the event of gingivitis, you may be offered treatment – or a bone graft may be scheduled if the height or thickness of your alveolar bone is insufficient.

The ASTRA TECH implants we use are titanium screws inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The jawbone then heals and regenerates around the implant, ensuring the strength of the whole. This is what we call osseointegration: the implant is accepted by the jawbone and perfectly integrated into it, for an average lifespan of fifteen years.

Once healing is complete (3 to 6 months later), a ceramic crown can be scheduled to replace the visible part of the tooth, or a bridge can be fitted.

What is the procedure and follow-up like at Studio Dentaire?

The assessment, procedures and follow-up visits will take place at Studio Dentaire in Lyon on weekdays, depending on your availability. Implants, crowns and bridges are placed in the operating room under local anaesthetic. These procedures are relatively quick and painless; your dental surgeon acts gently and will prescribe medication to take before and after the procedure to help you relax, avoid pain and swelling – which are far more frequent and significant in clinics under general anaesthetic! The placement of implants is essential for replacing your teeth with fixed prostheses. Your practitioner will prepare the jawbone to receive the titanium implant by slightly lifting the gum. Once the implant has been inserted, sutures are inserted and removed ten days later in the office, after checking that healing has taken place. Once healing is complete, a few months later, we schedule the placement of a dental abutment on which the crown will be fixed. For this, we’ll give you an appointment about 2 weeks beforehand at the surgery to take your dental impressions, which will enable our prosthetic partners to create a custom-made ceramic prosthesis that will blend harmoniously with your dentition. We use state-of-the-art equipment for the sake of precision, but also for your comfort: the implant is placed using a custom-made guide after a preliminary study of your radiographs using SIMPLANT software. Once stabilized, we use a camera to make a 3D impression of your teeth. Forget the sticky paste you used to have to hold in your mouth for long minutes!
